In August 1986, Dr. Valiere Alcena, M.D., M.A.C.P. was the first physician in the world and is credited as the physician who originated the idea that male circumcision would decrease the incidence of HIV/AIDS.
Dr. Alcena wrote the article about AIDS and circumcision in August of 1986 in the NY State Journal of Medicine. This idea has prevented several million people from becoming infected with HIV/AIDS (6.3 million” between” 2006-2007). Close to 1 million deaths have also been prevented during that time because of male circumcision. Time Magazine named the idea of “Male circumcision #1 among the Top 10 medical breakthroughs for the years 2007”.
